Good choice for joining the revolution of ADSL.

without any tedious waiting queues and 24 month contracts
1. First you need to check if ADSL is available for your line
2. If ADSL is available for you, you need to order the adsl line from telkom
This is just the functionality of the line from telkom, not the bandwidth
Telkom still owns the copper wires coming into your building
Your best options would be 384k speed, self install, no contract, own modem
You will need to wait for telkom to send you the sms notifing you that your
adsl is connected. Keep that sms saved, you are going to need it
3. Once you receive your confirmation sms, you nned to buy an ADSL modem
If you only have 1 PC, buy the single port modem
If you have up to 4 PC’s, buy the 4 port modem
If you want to connect your laptop on wireless, buy the wireless modem
4. You also need to buy some bandwidth. Don’t worry if you run out,
you can always top up until the end of the month
Now you have bought everything you need. Wait for you modem to arrive
(normaly 2 days)and plug everything in. Remember, the ADSL goes straight
into the wall socket and everything thing else goes through the supplied
POTS filter, including other extensions on the same line.
5. Check your connection by going to www.telkom.co.za No other sites
will work yet.
Two more steps until you are fully up and running.
6. You need to verify your ADSL line with Telkom
open your internet browser (internet explorer) and type the following
into the adress bar
http://www.telkom.co.za/verifyadsl
type in your phone number the the adsl is connected to and the order
number in your sms
click verify and after around 30 seconds you should see the green tick
7. Add an added service to you, we will set up your modem for free
with your username and pasword before we ship it to you.
You will just have to plug it in.
This set up will work in most current setups and can always be changed
if nessesary.

Some common troubleshooting steps:
NO LIGHTS ON THE MODEM
plug in the power and switch it on at the back
ADSL LIGHT OFF OR FLASHING STEADILY ON THE MODEM
plug the phone cable straight into the wall
still not working? phone 0800375375 and ask them to check your line
INTERNET LIGHT OFF OR RED ON THE MODEM
Oops, we might have made a typo when we set up your modem
Phone 0879422547 during office hours.
If this happens on the first or second of the month, you forgot to pay
us for your bandwidth.
LAN OR NETWORK LIGHT NOT ON
check the cable from the modem to the PC is plugged in. Make sure it is the
cable with the big phone plugs on, not the normal one
STILL NOT WORKING?
for windows users, press and hold the windows key (the flag with 4 squares on your keyboard)
tap the R and let go of the windows key
in the box that comes up, type cmd and click ok
in the black window that comes up, type tracert 168.210.2.2 and press enter
the end of the first line should be your modem address. eg 192.168.1.1
if all you see in the first line is 4 * check the cables between computer and modem
if you see 8 for 4 lines halfway down, verify your line again or buy more bandwidth
or telkom has broken the exchange, try again later
